ABOUT US
Sumter Cut Rate Drug Store is located in beautiful (stop laughing!) downtown Sumter, SC - within walking distance from the only hospital in the county.
Come enjoy our Soda Fountain, the 2nd oldest still-in-business restaurant in Sumter! Grab one of our pimento cheese BLT's or a fried pork chop!
We host several car shows each year, usually in the spring and fall months, to benefit several charities in the Sumter area.

OUR HISTORY
WC McManus opened the Sumter Cut Rate Drug Store in this same location on August 8, 1935. His first store manager was Mr. H.H. Herndon. The newspaper article covering the store opening mentioned, "A new sanitary soda fountain has been installed from which will be dispensed and complete line of fountain drinks and creams."
For perspective, a 100-count of Bayer Aspirin sold in 1935 for only 59 cents and a pint of rubbing alcohol was 13 cents. Coca Colas from the fountain were only a nickel. Our soda fountain still serves breakfast, lunch and Coca-Cola fountain drinks (for a bit more than 5 cents!).
WC McManus' nephew, Clyde McManus, purchased the store from his Uncle in 1961 and led Sumter Cut Rate Drug Store into the mid 1980's, when Marvin "Mac" McMullen purchased the store from Clyde.
Currently, Roy Flynn, John Holladay, and Chad Gibbons are owner-pharmacists at Sumter Cut Rate Drug Store. Our mission is to help you understand and receive your medications on time, to provide knowledge and guidance in medicine-related decisions, and to become your friend as you go through life. As a result, we think you live longer and feel better.
